New York, New YorkRating, 5 stars, · Feb 2024, · Stayed with kidsAbsolutely magical! Perfect for small children (safe railings, great sun shelf in the pool, good shade). Saw and heard lots of howler monkeys! All of their recommendations were dreamy - Soda La Naranja, Zuma Tours, Los Artistas, Cocolores. Such a beautiful bohemian town, less busy and a little fresher climate than Santa Teresa. Communication was above and beyond. We would be more than lucky to stay here again someday!
Cincinnati, OhioRating, 5 stars, · March 2024, · Stayed a few nightsPictures don't do this home justice! The adventure to get there is SO worth it. They provided very clear instructions since the surrounding roads generally aren't named. The home was amazing, and the wrap around balcony was a highlight. Between the wildlife and ocean, the view was hard to leave. Wish we could've stayed for a month! It was so peaceful I caught myself dreaming about how great it would be to live there.
The hosts answered all of our questions and provided great local recommendations. I would definitely try to stay there again if I ever get to go back.
Robert Rating 5 Stars January 2024 The accommodations were comfortable and more than expected. The view was the most spectacular and not expected. Sunrise to boot. Mario the caretaker was always helpful and available and even had laundry service available which we desperately needed due to our extended travel at this time. Beautiful surroundings and amenities. We would recommend to others looking for a beautiful and unique experience here in Costa Rica. Pura Vida!Tree House

Anchorage, AlaskaRating, 5 stars, · January 2019, · Stayed a few nights. The location is amazing. We saw tons of wildlife from the porch. The view of the moon rise and sun rise just doesn't get any better. There are tons of fun activities to do in Montezuma so we stayed busy and enjoyed the beach town to its fullest. The house is up on the hill and away from any late night party or vehicle noise you would experience if you stayed in town. Check in was made easy by meeting Marlon at a predetermined location so that he could guide us up to the house. House numbers don't exist in Costa Rica so it was really helpful to have someone show us the way. I do recommend having a rental car 4x4 at this location. We enjoyed having the AC at night. I would come back for sure!.
Sylvia- Rating 5 Stars February 2023 We had a wonderful holiday week in Montezuma at Chris and Christine's house. The view of the sea from the beautiful balcony is fantastic and also otherwise the house is highly recommended for a carefree stay! Everything is neat and tidy, the kitchen well equipped with everything the chef could ask for. The two large beds are very comfortable. Mario welcomed us warmly and was there to clean the pool daily and take care of the garden or anything else. He always inquired if everything was okay or if he could do something for us. A car with 4 wheel is recommended as the driveway is actually very steep. We highly recommend the stay and would love to come again.Translated from GermanShow originalTree House
Glen Ridge, New JerseyRating, 5 stars, · January 2021, · Group tripThis is a great house with views of the Nicoya peninsula and Pacific ocean that will truly take your breath away. Stunning sunrises over the water every morning. We loved the house and the cool hippy vibe of Montezuma. Christine was super helpful with recommendations. The beaches nearby were jaw-droppingly beautiful. You’ll definitely need a car and the dirt roads can be a bit dicey in places. House had no internet when we were there but Christine had warned us about it ahead of time. It worked out fine for us since we wanted to unplug anyway.
Steen- Rating 5 Stars January 2023 This place is simply said: Awesome. The house and its surroundings are second to none. The pictures was not fair, they underestimated the place. The atmosphere of sitting and sensing the jungle, looking at the pacific. Watching whale. And Montezuna just close by. 5 min by car. A real cosy chaotic looking laid back place. With restaurants from low to hi (lokal hi, not real hi). A place to feel home at. The laid back Caribbean atmosphere. All is here. We saw Dolphins, Monkeys, salamanders - full of life. And a real gem was thrown at the top: the janiter: Romeo, helpful in any way. From advicing, getting sim card whatever. Made all look clean. Only setback was that the internet was delayed in installation, but is probably installed as i am writing. If possible, we will come back.Tree House

¡Pura vida!
Chris and Christine
""Pura vida" is a phrase that is intimately associated with Costa Rica and its culture that literally translates to "pure life" or "simple life" in English. It is the quintessential Tico phrase that every tourist learns to use ubiquitously to mean “hello,” “thank you,” “oh, well,” and so much more! However, its meaning in Costa Rican society goes much deeper, embodying a philosophy of living life to the fullest while maintaining a relaxed, positive outlook.
Costa Rica famously abolished its army in 1948, under President José Figueres Ferrer. The decision to do so was rooted in a desire to ensure stability and focus national resources on development priorities like education, health care, and environmental protection. This strategic shift has contributed significantly to the peaceful and socially progressive character of the nation, and it aligns well with the "pura vida" lifestyle.
Not long after, the phrase "pura vida" was introduced to Costa Rican culture in the 1950s after the release of the Mexican film "¡Pura vida!" in 1956, directed by Gilberto Martínez Solares. The film features a character who remains optimistic despite unfortunate circumstances, frequently using the phrase "pura vida" regardless of the situation.
The repeated use of "pura vida" by this character in the film resonated strongly with Costa Ricans. It was adopted into everyday language and gradually became a staple of Costa Rican speech, encapsulating the country's cultural identity and optimistic outlook.
Today, the term "pura vida" has been adopted into everyday language in Costa Rica, used as a greeting, a farewell, and a way to express gratitude or contentment. It reflects an attitude that is both optimistic and non-materialistic, resonating deeply with the Costa Rican way of life, known locally as "Tico" culture. This ethos is not just a slogan but a real reflection of how Costa Ricans view life.
The reinvestment of military funds into areas such as education has helped Costa Rica achieve one of the highest literacy rates in Latin America and foster a highly educated populace. The emphasis on education and healthcare has played a crucial role in improving the overall quality of life, making Costa Rica one of the region's most stable and prosperous countries.
